Thrilled to run, be involved and support

Quite a few members of The Country House Company team run to keep fit so we were particularly excited when Bedales recently approached us to sponsor the Bedales Great South Run Team.
The Country House Company and Pledgit are the only two sponsors helping the team to raise money for two Bedales Charities, Cecily’s Fund and John Badley Foundation. Cecily’s Fund was established to support educating vulnerable children in Zambia and John Badley Foundation offers life changing opportunities by funding full bursaries (from 11+) for pupils whose family circumstances mean that a Bedales education would otherwise be out of reach.
The Bedales Great South Run Team already has 38 runners including pupils, old Bedalians, teachers, support staff, parents, former parents, other supporters of Bedales and Marishelle from The Country House Company! They are hoping to exceed 40 members so if you know of anyone who is keen to take part and is connected with Bedales do contact Marishelle.
The team gathered on Saturday for the first team photo and to be presented with their personalised running shirt. Fundraising in earnest will start in September and training has already begun! Watch the blogs, Bedales website and The Country House Company website for the latest updates.

After a week of wind and rain the sun shone on Rogate’s annual village fete. Over 1000 people streamed into the bunting strewn recreation ground on Saturday afternoon.

Anna Lobbenberg, Chair of the Fete Committee said we are thrilled everyone had such a good time.  A lot of people have worked very hard to make this a wonderful village celebration. One of the highlights had to be the tug of war, farmers vs the rest of the world! Over £7000 was raised which will be put to good use in our community and beyond.

The village hall hosted the now famous Rogate teas run by Susie Shepherd-Smith and her wonderful team who worked non-stop offering a delicious range of cakes and cream teas with many people going back for seconds.

The arena was constantly busy with popular children’s races including parent and child three legged race.  This was followed by the dog show with Julie Sprakling making the tricky choices, then lovely singing from the pupils at Rogate School. The Marquee hosted the flower show with Rogate’s vicar Revd Edward Doyle presenting the cups.

Highlights around the busy site included traditional favourites with busy bric-a-brac, second hand books, plants and a cake stall. Visitors could wander round the display of beautifully presented vintage cars from Double LL Club, watch demonstrations of weaving and spinning, archery, blacksmithing and beekeeping.

There was never a dull moment with a huge inflatable slide, bouncy castle, jousting, face painting, nails and tattoos, cupcake decorating, chuck-an-egg, nerf gun alley, paint balling, craft corner, marble game, coconut shy, Professor Potty, donkey rides and the human fruit machine.

Visitors enjoyed delicious burgers and sausages cooked by the Rogate PTA, Turkish street food from Cara Gorda Cantina, traditional ice creams, crepes,  all washed down with Beer or Pimms from the bar run by Debs Burles and her team.

A huge thank you to the Fete Committee, to the many hard working village volunteers, to the stall holders, to the sponsors who supported us, including The Country House Company and for providing their signs, and to the raffle prize donors.  See you in 2018!

The award-winning Hampshire Food Festival will return this July with over 60 tempting food and farming events. The festival is a chance to explore the stunning Hampshire countryside and meet the producers involved in keeping the county so flavoursome.

Discover what goes on behind the scenes with farm, distillery, brewery and vineyard tours. Walk with buffalo, visit the lavender fields, meet the dairy cows, sip the wine and tuck into afternoon tea on the farm. Have a lesson in food with classes from charcuterie making to vegetable talks and cake baking.

Pop-up events featuring Hampshire ingredients will include one with MasterChef winner Jane Devonshire taking place near Winchester where all profits will be donated to Ark Cancer Charity.

The Vineyards of Hampshire Wine Festival will see seven of the county’s vineyards coming together at Cottonworth Vineyard. Guests will be able to tour the vineyard and taste wine from all the winemakers. A perfect way to discover more about the growing Hampshire wine scene!

With so many events to choose from across the county between 1-31 July there really is something for everyone. The well-established food festival is now in its seventeenth year and is co-ordinated by community interest county food group, Hampshire Fare.

Tracy Nash, commercial manager of Hampshire Fare commented: “July’s Hampshire Food Festival is an opportunity for people to go behind the scenes of the county’s thriving local food culture. See where our ingredients are grown and learn more about what our county is so good at producing. There’s a chance to taste lots of delicious things along the way and meet the people behind the food.”

At many of the events visitors will be able to grab the opportunity for a fun family photo at the food group’s photo board. Sponsored by The Country House Company the board depicts a country scene drawn by local artist Simon Chadwick. Hampshire Fare and The Country House Company collaborated on the project to help engage the public, to highlight the people behind Hampshire’s produce and to get as many people as possible showing their smiles in support of the local food scene.

We were pleased to take two calls in one week from clients returning to us after a considerable period of time. Both said that we had done a great job for them in the past and were delighted to find the staff and service as they remembered. With all the uncertainty there is surrounding the property market in general and the ever increasing amounts of changing and challenging legislation it is important to use a property agent that is a member of a professional governing body with experienced and qualified staff, is well established and known in the area and that deals with all aspects of property. Here at The Country House Company the team covers sales, lettings and management and we work together in an open plan office, constantly discussing clients, applicants and properties. If we have worked with you in the past we will remember who you are so please remember us if you need any advice on property!

The Country House Company has been appointed to sell this delightful cottage and brick and flint barn within delightful gardens and orchard in a particularly peaceful and secluded setting. The property is situated on Lone Barn Lane in Corhampton Down. Whilst requiring updating, opportunities such as this are genuinely rare. The barn has a residential planning class and so could be converted but to provide ancillary accommodation to the principal dwelling. The guide price is £795,000.

The generously proportioned principal reception room serves as a sitting, dining room and study and features a wood burning stove, attractive lattice windows and oak flooring.

On the first floor, two double bedrooms and a single bedroom, with decent ceiling heights, are served by a bathroom which can be accessed from the principal bedroom too.  There are also some attractive beams visible on this floor.

The gardens are a total delight with various enclaves, colourful plants, mature trees and to the west in particular, lovely views. There are brick built sheds and some hard standing for a vehicle.

Across Lone Barn Lane is a barn building sitting amongst a most attractive orchard. There is also a substantial wooden outbuilding used for storage currently. The Barn comprises a vaulted principal room with mezzanine level over the kitchenette and shower room.

We understand that modest extensions to both Shellets and Shellets Barn could be possible but we would urge interested parties to make their own enquiries to the planning departments.

Whilst many feel that rules are made for the guidance of wise men and obedience of fools and that we are bogged down as a country by too many rules and regulations there are many that are vital and can only be for the greater good. Reasonable legislation bought in to protect the safety of tenants and properties should not be argued with.
Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous substance produced by the incomplete burning of carbon-based products, such as natural gas and liquid petroleum (LPG). This happens when a gas appliance has been incorrectly fitted, badly repaired or poorly maintained. It can also occur if flues, chimneys or vents are blocked.
In the right hands gas is safe, however if things go wrong gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer because you cannot see it, taste it or smell it and it can kill quickly with no warning. Every year CO poisoning affects over 4,000 people in the UK. The warning symptoms are numerous and detailed in a press release on this website see https://www.countryhousecompany.co.uk/category/news/
Landlords have a legal duty to maintain gas appliances that are provided and ensure a gas safety check is carried out every 12 months, by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.
We do ensure that this is carried out for all our managed properties and landlords are advised at the beginning of every tenancy. But the matter of gas safety is so important that responsible letting agents need to bring it to the attention of landlords and tenants regularly.

The Country House Company has been appointed to sell this rare, detached village house set in over
1.3 acres of gardens in a really peaceful position and because of well screened boundaries, lovely
open views across farmland and over the roof tops of houses in the village of Hambledon,
remarkably private. Built in about 1938, the property was consciously designed to benefit from
direct southerly light and is orientated accordingly at the back. Whilst configured as a family house
and annex, the property could become one to provide excellent family living. The guide price is
£1,750,000.

On entering the house one arrives in an appealing reception hall and from here one can enter the
drawing room, dining room and the kitchen/breakfast room which features an AGA. Both have
access onto the large, raised terrace and from there down into the garden.

The first floor is particularly versatile with the main house and annex linking on the landing should a
buyer wish to occupy the whole property as a larger family house. An elegant principal bedroom
enjoys glorious aspects both across the garden and easterly over the rooftops of the village. There
are 4 other bedrooms in the main house and a family bathroom.
The Annex, with its own front door from the driveway, comprises an appealing reception room
which leads out into the garden, a kitchen, a large double bedroom and a shower room.
The gardens are delightful, with various sun terraces, an extensive lawn and various colourful beds
stocked with mature shrubs. Hedgerows and trees provide good screening and privacy. There is a
double garage and a gravel drive with parking for numerous vehicles.

Sponsorship of events in the area has to be one of the more enjoyable aspects of marketing and particularly when the team at The Country House Company get involved. The photo board which is central to our joint marketing campaign with Hampshire Fare is being well received across the region at various events and was particularly well received at the Sparsholt Countryside Day on Saturday. Patrick Glynn-Jones, Head of Sales, joined in the fun and along with his daughters was entertained by various demonstrations and activities including sheep shearing, ferret racing, cattle show, pony rides, show jumping, cookery demonstrations, pedal tractor Grand prix and of course a souvenir photo in our photo board!

As Patrick commented;

“My two daughters and I spent a really enjoyable afternoon at The Sparsholt Country Fair on Saturday. There was an enormous amount to see and do with many stalls, demonstrations, country animals and food offerings…and all in pretty good weather. The Hampshire Fare board which we have sponsored this year was proving very popular and so Livi, Martha and I did our bit and stuck our faces into the spaces! This really is an event worth attending next year.

Tracy Nash, Commercial Manager at Hampshire Fare added
“We are really enjoying taking our new photo board to events across the county and beyond. It appeals to people of all ages and really cheers people up as they photograph their friends and family posing away! For us it is about building awareness of our food’s link to the Hampshire countryside and the board, made possible through The Country House Company, does this in such an engaging way”
